The Louisiana Melon Run is an event just for motorcyclists that is very similar to a traditional Poker Run, with the exception that the winning “hand” is the total points added together from collected cards. The Melon Run was first introduced in conjunction with the Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville, Louisiana, thus the name. Since then, the Melon Run has evolved and taken on a life of it's own, by becoming a non-profit organization and donating the proceeds to charity. Registration fees for the Louisiana Melon Run will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. The decision to use this particular charity came after Melon Run Treasurer, Martie Graham, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2008. This is a great foundation for a wonderful cause, and by participating, you will be part of the cure. |
